Simplify communication by understanding the big story behind communication efforts.

A Strategic Narrative is a way for a company to communicate with its market. The company tells its story and explains why it matters, and this happens from the CEO to the sales team. The story should be told in a way to make it easy for customers to understand.

Why should I believe Strategic Narrative can do all of this?

The first step to a successful Strategic Narrative is understanding how your market sees you. This means examining the market and industry as a whole and how your organization fits within it.

To create a narrative that will speak to your target market, you must know what they want and need from you, which means understanding their needs and wants over time.

The next stage is to establish a communication framework with this information. This is referred to as the brand expression of a Strategic Narrative. Everything your company says across all platforms, including advertising and marketing materials, social media presence and engagement, website content and design layout, corporate publications like press releases and presentations, video content like promotional films or explainers on

After establishing your brand expression, you may begin to communicate the Strategic Narrative through your messaging. The last stage is to combine everything by applying Strategy Guidance. This is where everything starts making sense for everyone involved in an organization—not just marketing but also strategically across departments.

With the Strategic Narrative in play, employees will know what you're saying, why you're saying it, and how to act on it. Let's take a closer look at the Strategic Narrative brand expression that will serve as your messaging framework.

And when you want to go deeper, it's time to access our Storytelling for Action™ program and apply our TRIPS Storytelling™ methodology. The book will be available soon via all good publishing platforms.

Here are some questions that might be helpful when designing this part of your Strategic Narrative:

  • What is my target market/demographic?

  • What transformation in the market is affecting people, and how?

  • What does my target market care about, and which messages resonate?

Now it is time to put everything together! Your Strategic Narrative is more than just message consistency, and you need to make sure your brand is consistent across all communication platforms. Here are some ways to make sure this happens:

  • Develop a standards guide for all platforms. This means visuals, typefaces, tone of voice, and everything else that makes up your brand expression on each particular channel or medium.

  • Use the same color palette across platforms. It's good to have different tones of a single color, but not different colors entirely.

  • Have a common typeface family across all platforms.

  • If used in video messaging, Scripts should be the same on each platform.

  • Maintain consistent rhythm and language throughout your content. This includes using the same adjectives, metaphors, and even sentence length.

  • Use the same voice in all messaging and video. It may sound obvious, but it's easy to get caught up in a moment!

  • Make sure audio and visual messages align with your written content.

That's just a start, but it's a lot to get going with.
